Senator Elbert Guillory of Opelousas has formally announced his candidacy in the race for lieutenant governor, a race twenty-two months out.  This is something he says he has thought and prayed about for a long time now, and he plans to focus on creating jobs, education, and safety in the state.  He wants to integrate tourism into all three of those facets.

"I'm looking forward to going to every nook and cranny of Louisiana and meeting folks, talking with them and letting them get to know me and my vision for Louisiana.  I want to find out their advice and their vision for Louisiana so that we can do this together," says Senator Elbert Guillory.

Senator Guillory's campaign started last week with his formal announcement.  He says he has received an overwhelmingly positive response to his candidacy already.  Guillory will be running against Billy Nungesser, parish president of Plaquemines parish for lieutenant governor.
