Second Harvest Food Bank receives largest donation of produce in history
Distribution taking place now across south Louisiana, and even other states
LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) — Second Harvest Food Bank received it's largest donation of produce from the Produce Marketing Association. Beginning this morning, Second Harvest Food Bank started distributing the produce to over one-hundred partner agencies across south Louisiana who will in turn distribute the reclaimed produce directly to clients in teh communities they serve.
"Across Louisiana one of six Louisianians are hungry, chronically hungry. This means that someone you know more than likely even though you aren't aware of who it is has an issue with hunger. We're trying to reach out to all those families and give them some healthy alternatives," says Paige Vance, community outreach manager of Second Harvest Food Bank.
Because of the historic amount of produce donated, Second Harvest will help distribute this fresh healthy product to neighboring Feeding America Network food banks in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida.
