(CNN) — The holiday may be over, but the cookies and eggnog may still be lingering around your midsection.
But how do you sweat off those post-holiday pounds when it is so darn cold outside?
Regardless of the weather or the temperature, you will often see people outside trying to get some exercise.
So what's the best way safely exercise outdoors in the wintertime?
Health.com is out with some winter workout tips.
Clearly you want to bundle up, but dress in layers that you can change as needed during your workout.
Make sure your cover your head and your hands. Your body loses 50 percent of its heat if your head is uncovered, and your hands will get cold as your blood moves to the center of your body to protect your organs during the cold weather.
And WebMD suggests doing a quick inside workout to heat up your body before stepping outside. You can try doing some jumping jacks for a few minutes.
Finally, sometimes it’s just too cold to go outside for extended periods. Frostbite becomes a real issue for exposed skin if the temperature dips below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
