Residents in Acadiana now have a choice on what kind of care we can receive at the doctor's office.  Acadiana now has it's first family medicine physician that is also board certified in integrative holistic medicine.  Integrative medicine focuses on the relationship between the doctor and the patient, looking at the patient as a whole person.  Holistic medicine looks at the spiritual, mental, and physical aspects of a person.

"Not everybody wants to just go in and get a prescription for whatever ails them.  People want to learn how can I change this or what can I do to make improvements, how can I change my lifestyle, what can I change about the way I eat, what can I change about supplements that I take, all of those things," says Elizabeth McLain, M.D., Lafayette General Medical Center.

Dr. McLain says this practice focuses on a different set of questions.  Instead of what do you have, asking why do you have it.  She says by finding and fixing the ailing part of a system, you are on the way to real health and healing.
