Representative Ortego says the change in rates will be unfair to those using solar energy

Monday, June 24, 2013 - 1:25pm

Representative Stephen Ortego made a bold statement today on the roof of a solar paneled house in Lafayette.  Wednesday the Public Service Commission will be discussing the possibility of changing the net metering rates.  They are discussing lowering these rates by over sixty percent, which would change the rates of those in the area that have decided to use solar panel energy.

"It's just not fair to those families that have invested in this technology, and with the assumption that these rates would be like this.  It's not fair for those consumers, and in the end everybody's going to have to pay for it," says Representative Ortego.

Representative Ortego says solar panels are helping to fix our grid, helping us to be less taxed.  This is becuase the solar panels are preserving energy to the houses the panels are on as well as their neighbors.  This is helping from having to spend tax dollars changing our transmission lines over and over again because of the use of energy.
