Rayne man arrested on drug charges

A routine traffic stop has led to a man being arrested on drug charges.

On May 21 at 8:55 p.m. a Scott Police Officer was stationary on Dronet Street and observed a light colored sedan approach the intersection of Mills Street and W. Willow.

Without stopping the vehicle turned east onto West Willow. The officers saw that the vehicle to have extremely dark windows and no lights on the license plate; he conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Upon contact with the driver, Kevin Espree, 33, the officer noticed a hand-rolled cigar behind the driver's right ear. When Espree was questioned about the hand-rolled cigar, he quickly grabbed it and ingested it.

Espree was detained and a pat down search was conducted to locate any additional contraband. During the pat down search, Espree dropped a clear cellophane bag, in an attempt to conceal it.

The bag contained 5.2g of marijuana. Also, two other cellophane bags containing 2.5g of marijuana in each were found.

Espree was acharged with Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Obstruction of Justice, Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, a Stop Sign Violation and a Window Tint Violation.
