Police: Arrest made in Shunick investigation
LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) — The Lafayette Police Department has officially confirmed that Brandon Lavergne, 33, has been arrested in connection with the Mickey Shunick case. Lavergne is a convicted sex offender. Lavergne lives in Church Point, LA. This is just north west of Lafayette. Lavergne was convicted on February 18, 2000, on Aggravated Oral Sexual Battery Charges.
The Lafayette Police Department will host a press conference Friday at 1:00 PM. And, investigators tell us no other comment will be made until that press conference.
Shunick was last seen on Saturday, May 19 at 2:00 a.m. The now 22-year-old anthropology major at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette left the home of Brettly Wilson and headed home on her bicycle. No one has seen or heard from her since then.
