Police arrest known Opelousas drug dealer following high-speed chase

Opelousas police arrested a known drug dealer from the area after a high-speed chase on I-49.

According to a report from OPD, members of the Crime Suppression Team were conducting surveillance on East South Street when they saw Chad "Nash" Thomas, 27, of Opelousas, driving a white pickup truck.

Officers recognized Thomas as a major drug dealer known to carry weapons.

Thomas rammed a police vehicle before speeding away.

The chase went through Opelousas to I-49 South and included units from Sunset, Grand Coteau, Carencro, LA State Police, and the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas traveled well over 100mph South on I-49, then North on I-49 to Sunset, and then back to I-49 South towards Lafayette.

About 20 officers surrounded Thomas's vehicle on the I-49 service road just north of Exit 4 in Carencro.

Police took Thomas and his female passenger into custody and took them to Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Thomas will be booked for Aggravated Flight from an Officer along with numerous traffic offenses. Thomas and his passenger will then go back to Opelousas to face charges.
