Emergency personnel are on the scene of an explosion and fire at CF Industries in Donaldsonville.

A representative with Acadian Ambulance says they are treating at least 5 patients. Two are believed to be in critical condition.

The Louisiana State Police is responding to the scene. They say they believe the fire has been extinguished.

A witness at the scene says a delivery truck is involved in the blaze.

According to the company’s website, CF industries is North America’s largest producer of nitrogen. It ships approximately 5 million tons for agricultural and industrial uses each year.

On March 28, 2012, a Hazmat team responded to a failure at one of their ammonia plants. During that shut down a chemical called amine was released into the air. One person driving by the plant was momentarily blinded by the chemical and crashed on the plant property.

This explosion is in the same parish where a deadly blast occurred the day before at the Williams Olefins plant in Geismar.
