Pay it Forward scholarships awarded to recent high school graduates around Acadiana
Founder Glenn Armentor making a point to help out at-risk youth in the area
LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) — Five high school graduates from around the Acadiana area received the Glenn Armentor Pay it Forward scholarship today. The scholarship is a full-ride to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. This scholarship focuses on at-risk students that otherwise cannot afford a higher education after high school, but are able to maintain a 4.0.
"The truth is tragically that there are more at-risk kids in America tonight than there has ever been in the history of our country, and tomorrow night there will be more and the night after that there will be more. It is a disturbing trend literally cascading into an epidemic. If we don't do something about it then it'll get worse," says Glenn Armentor, Attorney and Founder of Pay it Forward scholarship.
Armentor was an at-risk youth himself, and three mentors taught hime the value of an education. It is now his desire to pay it forward to every at-risk youth he can as it was done to him. He hopes that the recipients of the scholarship will one day pay it forward also. It is the fourth year this scholarship has been awarded, and now a total of 12 students have received the full-ride scholarship.
