Partial closure on I-10 may affect your travel during the next month
Partial closure due to maintenance on Sawmill Road overpass from wreck last year
LAFAYETTE (KADN) — Part of Interstate 10 will close down at 10 pm tonight and stay closed until 5 in the morning. The closure will be on the eastbound side from Louisiana Avenue all the way to the Sawmill overpass.
Drivers should get off at the Louisiana Avenue exit, and then take Carmel Drive over the Rees Street to get back to the interstate. That whole stretch will be closed tonight and from 10 pm to 5 am tomorrow night, and then it will only have one lane open at night for another month.
"We know that I-10 is a heavily traveled interstate of course people accessing the Atchafalaya Basin bridge trying to get over to the Baton Rouge area, so we want to make sure that once we did the closure that it would be at a time where there would be as little impact to traffic as possible," says Deidra Druilhet, Department of Transportation and Development.
The closure will allow crews to fix the Sawmill Road overpass which was damaged in a wreck last year. Local police will be in the area to help you with the detour route.
