LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) — Crews have worked all day to off-load an 18-wheeler that crashed early this morning. Roughly 7,000 gallons of Methanol has to be removed from the crashed tanker can be hauled away.
The Louisiana State Police reports that the crash occurred on I-49 northbound of LA 10 in Lafayette Parish shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 25. We’re told the driver ran off the side of the road and overcorrected, causing him to crash. The tanker overturned, but the cab remained upright.
Officials say no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no one was injured. However, the driver was issued a citation for Careless Operation.
Interstate 49 has been shut down all day while crews work to remove the flammable liquid. They anticipate that the road will be closed until the late afternoon and possibly the early evening.
