OPD investigates Tuesday murder

Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m., Opelousas Police received a call indicating that an individual was shot near the dead end of Caddo Street in Opel.

Officers arrived to find 41-year-old Dewayne "Robbie" White lying dead in an area just north of Caddo street.

Mr. White was pronounced dead by a St. Landry Parish Coroner.

Information came in quickly of a person of interest. Patrol officers took that individual, later identified as 32-year-old Nathaniel McCoy Jr., Opel, into custody regarding a warrant for Attempted 2nd Degree Murder by the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office.

OPD investigators determined that McCoy is a suspect in the homicide.
