SABINE PARISH, LA — A 20-year-old man died and a 16-year-old was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after they were ejected from a vehicle. The driver, who was arrested for negligent homicide, is suspected of being impaired at the time of the crash.
The Louisiana State Police reports that the crash happened shortly before midnight on Sunday, Sept. 1. We’re told the vehicle was driving on Plainview Road near US 171 in Sabine Parish when he lost control and crashed the vehicle.
The truck overturned several times before it came to rest against two trees. The driver, Christopher A. Neal, 20, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Passenger Zachary S. Rhame, 20, was not wearing a seat belt during the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second teen passenger was also not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Neal was arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide, Contributing to the Delinquency of Juveniles, Careless Operation and No Seatbelt.
Troop E Troopers have investigated 31 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 32 fatalities.
