A Lake Charles woman was arrested for allegedly leaving her two small children home alone for several hours. A witness called police after one child was found outside with nothing on but a T-shirt.

The Lake Charles Police Department was called to a residence located on 2nd Street shortly before 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16. When they arrived they found that two children were unsupervised by an adult.

The first child appeared to be between 3-4 years old and was back in the home when officers arrived. They noted that the child was eating chips off the floor when they got there.

The second child was 1-year-old and was wearing a shirt and had a soiled diaper that “had not been recently changed.”

Child Protection was called to the scene.

The mother of the children, Octavia Pichon, returned home at roughly 11:00 a.m. She told investigators that she left the children home because they were asleep. Investigators later learned that she had left the home sometime before 6:45 a.m.

Pichon was arrested and charged with Child Desertion. She was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

The children were released to Child Protection and remain in their care.
