A 12-year-old girl from Kansas is safe in police custody after Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s deputies found her at house on Lantier Road in Lafayette Parish.

According to police reports, the Wichita, Kansas Police Department sent a tip to the LPSO on Saturday, Feb. 15 regarding a missing and endangered 12-year-old girl from Wichita.

Investigators determined that a 16-year-old teenager from Lafayette Parish befriended the girl on the internet.

Police say the two were not related and had never met in person.

The 16-year-old teen and the 12-year-old girl agreed to meet, so the boy and another teenager drove from Louisiana to Kansas, where they picked up the girl without parental consent.

Shortly after arriving at a home in Lafayette Parish, police located the girl and put her into the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services, where she will remain until she is reunited with her family.

The two teens who traveled to Kansas were also arrested. The 16-year-old was charged with Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile. He was booked into the Lafayette Parish Detention Center.

The second teen was questioned, but released.

Investigators do not expect any additional arrests in this case.

Police say there was no evidence that the 12-year-old was taken against her will or that she had been physically harmed.
