LAFAYETTE, LA — A man accused of raping a woman at a pool party over a year ago was arrested due to DNA evidence.
According to the arrest report, the incident originally happened on May 25, 2012 at a home located on East Bayou Shore road in Lafayette. The victim went to a local hospital immediately after the incident happened to complete a rape kit and police were contacted.
The victim told officers that her brother is the occupant of the home where the assault occurred. She said she went to the bathroom to change out of her bathing suit, and that’s when William Conrad, 32, committed the assault.
She explained that she told Conrad to stop, but he continued with force. After, he left the room and the victim told her brother about the assault.
When questioned about the incident by law enforcement, Conrad claimed that he did not touch the victim. He then voluntarily submitted a saliva sample, which was compared to the samples collected from the rape kit.
On March 25, 2013, the lab returned the results and it showed that the samples matched. A warrant was issued for Conrad’s arrest.
Conrad was arrested on Monday, Sept. 30. He was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. His bond was set at $50,000.
