Seventeen workers on their way home from Long Island
Lafayette, LA (KADN) — After spending the last two weeks working in the snow and in difficult living situations, Mayor Joey Durel says the employees of Lafayette Utility System could not be happier to be coming home.
Not only did the workers help out in the relief efforts, they also make a lasting impression to the people affected by the hurricane suffering through the power outages and damages left behind.
"We've heard from other people that have just been very complimentary about, and I guess the most common theme is polite. Evidently it's not something that their used to up there as we are down here. So that southern hospitality was brought all the way up north by our guys and I know they made us all proud," Mayor Joey Durel said.
The workers have started to make their way back from the grueling conditions of Long Island. Mayor Durel says the exact feeling of the workers as they head back home is "jubilation."
LUS is trying to make workers a big pot of gumbo as a "welcome back home" present for their hard work.
