LPD investigates suspicious death of man under arrest
Lafayette, LA (KADN) — Lafayette police are investigating what they call the suspicious death of a forty-eight year old male who developed breathing problems while being arrested, then later died at a hospital.
The man, wearing only his underwear, harassed patrons and employees on the sixth floor of the Super Six Hotel this morning just after 11 o'clock. A hotel security guard confronted the suspect and handcuffed him, but the man tried to run away. The security guard tackled him to the ground to prevent his escape, and then Lafayette Police arrived on scene.
According to Corporal Paul Mouton of LPD, "the suspect appeared to be having some type of medical emergency -- trouble breathing. Acadian Ambulance was called, and arrived a short time after that and transported him to an area hospital where he later died."
An autopsy will be conducted by the Lafayette Parish Coroners Office. The case is still under investigation.
