Opportunity for any tax payer in Louisiana delinquent on taxes to pay with 100% penalties waived and 50% of interest waived

The secretary of the department of revenue came to Acadiana today to remind everyone about the Louisiana tax amnesty period.  This is an opportunity for any tax payer in Louisiana who has any delinqent taxes, no matter the reason, to pay their taxes with 100% of penalties waived, and 50% of any interest piled up waived.

"Frankly, it's a great opportunity for tax payers and citizens, anybody that's behind on taxes.  We want them to know about it and take advantage of it.  It's something the government is offering.  State government has felt like this is a good thing to help people get back into compliance and hopefully stay in compliance going forward," says Tim Barfield, Secretary of Department of Revenue.

This unique time to catch up lasts for two months starting next Monday, September 23 and lasting through November 22.  This is also a benefit for the state, trying to accelerate collections and hopefully help the budget for the next year.
