METAIRIE, LA — The Louisiana Restaurant Association (LRA) joins with the National Restaurant Association (NRA) in raising awareness about food safety during September’s National Food Safety Month. This year’s focus is on the importance of food allergen awareness: “Taking Action to Avoid a Reaction.”
Throughout the month of September, the LRA will focus on providing restaurant personnel with the evidence-based education, training and resources needed to make restaurant dining safer for those Americans with food allergies. The LRA will feature techniques to aid restaurant staff in serving guests with food allergies safely in its blog- lrablogs.blogspot.com, social media channels and its publications.
“Food allergens affect more than 15 million Americans nationwide. Their allergies range from minor side effects to those that are life-threatening,” said LRA President & CEO Stan Harris. “The LRA understands the importance of raising awareness not only in the restaurant kitchen, but also in the public consciousness.”
National Food Safety Month will highlight components of the NRA’s ServSafe Food Safety program and its newly launched ServSafe Allergens online course designed to help front- and back-of-the-house employees better accommodate the growing number of guests with food allergies.
