Coast Guard halts traffic on low-water stretch of Mississippi

The backup of boats and barges on a low-water section of the Mississippi River increased Tuesday even as the eleven mile stretch reopened on a limited basis, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

A community pays final respects for fallen deputy

It is a somber day in LaPlace as a community pays its last respects to a deputy killed in the line of duty. The service is being held at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church located on West 5th Street in LaPlace.
