North Loop Street Stabbing and Shooting Update

By Danica Abraham

Steven Pitte allegedly kidnapped Tracy Brown from her home and later released her only to break into her mother's home later that day.

According to police they were forced to shoot Pitte while he was in the process of stabbing the woman.

We spoke with James Anthony Brown, one of the family members of the alleged victims.

"I was just getting to know him I wish I could've helped him," stated Brown.

Brown is still having trouble accepting all of the events of Tuesday, January 8th--the day his sister was kidnapped, his mother was stabbed, and also the day Steven Pitte, his sister's ex-boyfriend was shot and killed by police.

"Cause like I knew he was there I'm pretty sure I could've talked him down you know to where he wouldn't hurt no one even though he would've went do some time it would've been all right" stated Brown.

He also said he'd talked to Pitte a lot during the time he dated his younger sibling.

Brown said they talked about the threats Pitte made to his sister which eventually led to her filing a restraining order against him.

"She kept on saying James, I'm scared of him I think he really gon' do something to me and I said you really believe him and she said yeah, he threatened me," stated Brown.

His sister also told him about having a knife pulled out on her--the same weapon Pitte used to stab his mother.

But even after seeing his mother and sister hurt by Pitte, Brown still believed the 22-year-old was just a misguided young man that didn't deserve to die.

"He was just a young man you know... and when you're in love at a young age like that, you really....you know, 22-years old, you really ain't developed into having no real hardship, especially a love hardship," stated Brown.

And even though Brown wishes Pitte wouldn't have lost his life he is thankful that his family is safe.

Brown's mother was released from the hospital and is still recovering from her stab wounds. Brown said he hasn't spoken to his sister, Tracy Brown, since the incident.
