Lafayette, La. (KADN) — Friday is the final day local residents can order a water conservation rain barrel through the LUS Rain Barrel Program. The award-winning, popular program promotes water conservation. The barrels are designed to capture rainwater from rooftops in to order to be stored for uses such as washing your car, watering plants or lawns, or any other outdoor water related purposes. The rain barrel program also helps capture water that would otherwise flow into the Bayou Vermilion, reducing the amount of surface pollutants from being introduced into the local watershed. Information on how to order a rain barrel, and more about the program, can be found www.lus.org/rainbarrel. The barrels will be available for pickup on May 3, 2014 at the public works facility located at 1515 East University Avenue.
