Lake Charles couple accused of cashing over $68,000 in counterfeit checks

A couple from Lake Charles is accused of cashing counterfeit checks totaling over $68,000 at various banks.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s reports that the checks were cashed between June 8 and 27. An investigation linked Billy Ray Morris, Jr., 28, and Yolanda S. Cook, 40, to the crimes.

Both were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Parish Prison. Morris was charged with one count of Bank Fraud and Cook was charged with two counts of Bank Fraud. Morris’ bond was set at $10,000 and Cook’s bond was set at $40,000.
