August 19, 2014 — The first flight from Denver, Colorado landed at the Lafayette Regional Airport this afternoon around 1:40. The airport welcomed all 100 Denver passengers with gifts and airport merchandise celebrating the proclaimed “Denver United Day” by City-Parish President Joey Durel.
Representatives from the Lafayette Airport Commission, Lafayette Consolidated Government and United Airlines were all on hand to commemorate the inaugural flight of Lafayette's first regularly scheduled direct flights to Denver.
Vice Chairman Paul Guilbeau of the Lafayette Airport says while the flight will be utilized greatly by the gas and oil industry, he encourages all of Acadiana to take advantage of Lafayette's newest direct flight destination.
"We think that is going to be a lot of oil related people flying to Denver to the midwest and northwest. A lot of our people were flying through other hubs and this is going to give them the opportunity to fly direct and cut their time." said Guilbeau.
"We encourage all of the Acadiana residents to take advantage of it because we can use that in marketing for maybe other destinations while we are planning to build a new terminal later on."
