Lafayette Police looking for Derrick Peter Williams, wanted for two counts of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder
Police also looking for Gene Celestine, both involved in shooting Saturday afternoon at the 800 block of South Sterling
LAFAYETE (KADN) — Lafayette Police are looking for Derrick Peter Williams and Gene Celestine, both 18 years old and from Lafayette, for allegedly being involved in a shooting that happened around 2pm Saturday at the 800 block of South Sterling. The shooting happened after a fight between the suspects and two victims broke out. The fight escalated and Williams pulled out a handgun and shot the two victims, one in the calf and one in the ankle. Lafayette Police are warning the public to avoid physical altercations with people, especially when you do not know their history.
"The problem is the person you're dealing with, they may be in a parking lot of a retail outlet, they may have just gotten off the interstate and be wanted in three states, you just don't know the history behind the person you're dealing with and what they're capable of, if they have a weapon on them. So it's real important not to put yourself in that situation where it may escalate and someone pulls out a weapon," says Corporal Paul Mouton, Lafayette Police Department.
Williams is wanted for two counts of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, and Celestine is wanted for two counts of Principal to Attempted 2nd Degree Murder. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
