Crime statistics for the year of 2011 have been released by the Lafayette Police Department. Statistics illustrate that there were declines in all categories of the Uniform Crime Report.
There were noted increases in the total arrest and calls for service.
The Lafayette Police Department attributes the decline to several factors.
First being the community’s willingness to get involved and reporting criminal activity. The departments continuous efforts to refine and adapt its crime-fighting capabilities to address the ever changing patterns of criminal behavior and cutting edge technology being employed by the department on a daily basis.
“It is a constant battle to stay on top of changing trends by the criminals, but we feel the men and women of the Lafayette Police Department are answering the challenge”, says Chief Jim Craft.
This is the second year that the City of Lafayette has seen a reduction in crime of 5 percent or greater.
