LAFAYETTE, LA — A 26-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly held his girlfriend at gunpoint inside their residence, then attacked her.
The Lafayette Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Monday, Sept. 16 at roughly 2:40 p.m. It happened in a home located in the 100 block of Hansel Drive.
When officers arrived they learned that the suspect, Richard Arceneaux, had attacked his girlfriend. However, he fled the scene prior to police arrival.
The victim told officers that Arceneaux trapped her in the house after refusing to let her leave. He then choked her until she went unconscious and threatened her life while holding a gun.
The victim was treated for minor injuries.
Police issued warrants for Arceneaux’s arrest. On Tuesday, Sept. 17 at roughly 3:00 a.m., he surrendered to police in Patterson, La.
Arceneaux is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, False Imprisonment, and Second-Degree Battery. He will be transported back to Lafayette where he will be booked into the parish prison.
