Two people have been found dead in their Lafayette home; preliminary crime scene evidence points to an apparent murder-suicide.

On Wednesday, February 27 at 4:09 p.m., Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home in the 100 block of Lebesque Road in response to a resident reporting that she found her parents deceased inside their home. The reporting person lived in this home along with one other sibling and the parents.

Deputies discovered the man and his wife both deceased having gunshot wounds. The bodies were found in a front part of the home and no obvious signs of forced entry were noted. Family members later reported nothing missing from the home.

The male victim was Joseph Babineaux, 52, and the female victim was Judith Babineaux, 52.

Investigators have sufficient preliminary Forensic Evidence to indicate that Mrs. Babineaux was shot and killed first and that Mr. Babineaux had a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Additional Forensic testing and pathology reports will be used to verify the initial findings. A handgun, believed to be that of Mr. Babineaux, was recovered in proximity to the bodies.

Investigators are continuing to process evidence and conduct interviews in this case.
