LAFAYETTE, LA — An accused bank robber and carjacking suspect was arrested shortly after midnight in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
The Lafayette Police Department reports that detectives identified Justin Reed Seawright, 31, as a suspect for both cases. He was allegedly found in possession of the vehicle that was stolen during a carjacking that happened the day before the bank robbery.
Officials believe Seawright carjacked the woman at gunpoint on Tuesday, July 16. It happened in a parking lot located on Ambassador Caffery Parkway at roughly 4:30 p.m.
The victim was uninjured, but the suspect drove off in her white 2006 Mazda Tribute.
The following day at roughly noon, police responded to a bank robbery on Johnston Street. Witnesses reported that a man walked in with a gun and demanded money. As he fled with the cash, he dropped the handgun. They say he then got into a white Mazda Tribute that was located in the parking lot.
Shortly after midnight on Friday, July 20, officers with the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force located Seawright and placed him under arrest. Currently he is only charged with Armed Robbery in connection to the incident at the bank. However, they will soon obtain a warrant for the carjacking.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing at this time.
