BATON ROUGE (KADN) — The Louisiana State Police are warning residents about a phone scam in which the callers pretend to be with the Louisiana State Police or other local law enforcement agencies.

According to complaints, the caller uses the potential victim’s name and tells them that they or a family member has an arrest warrant and is wanted by State Troopers.

The caller then says that in order to avoid getting arrested, the potential victim must arrange to make a payment.

Troopers stress that the LSP would never ask for payment over the phone or negotiate payment to prevent arrest.

If you receive a suspicious phone call, please contact the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations at 225-925-1739 or the Louisiana State Analytical and Fusion Center at 225-925-6213.

The LSP on-line reporting system is also available by visiting www.LSP.org and clicking the Suspicious Activity link.
