Lafayette (KADN) — In a new report on health, Louisiana receives another low score.
The state ranks 48th this year when it comes to overall health on United Health Foundation’s annual list.
It’s a small improvement from last year, however, when Louisiana came in at 49.
Hawaii is the healthiest state, and Mississippi ranked dead last.
The study found that we have a high infant mortality rate, obesity, diabetes, and a lack of physical activity.
The good news is that local experts say that we can change this statistic.
“It doesn’t cost anything to drink a little more water,” said Tom Buchmann of Buchmann Natural Health. “There are a lot of little things we can do that don’t cost a lot that will improve our health over time.”
Dr. Buchmann also suggested that people be mindful of the things they put into their bodies.
One strength is that Louisiana has high immunization coverage among teens.
