John Barry, noted author and founder of Restore Louisiana Now, addressed faculty members and students at UL and local residents about a recent study conducted by New Orleans economist and former UNO Chancellor Timothy Ryan on the job creating potential of coastal restoration. Barry, former chair of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority East from 2007 to 2013, spoke about the new study and new legislation that puts the SLFPAE lawsuit with oil companies at risk and new legislation that would give more power to Governor Jindal to remove members from the SLFPAE. The SLFPAE was originally set up as a bipartisan group working on flood protection, but as legislators continue to hammer out details about how the group and the lawsuits it is has filed are to be handle, legislators are crafting a bill that would not allow the SLFPAE to file lawsuits against oil companies, people across Louisiana are focusing on this polarizing issue.
