BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A homeless man has been detained on mutiple charges, including theft and drug charges in Houma.
On September 27 at approximately 10:43 a.m., Houma Police responded to the 2200 block of Percy Street in reference to a theft of a maroon sun cruiser bicycle, chainsaw, and weedeater.
Officers were also informed of a theft that was taped on video surveillance cameras’ on the 1800 block of Prospect Avenue where a BBQ pit and propane bottle was stolen.
Shortly after officers responded to the Dollar Tree on Grand Caillou Road where a male suspect was observed carrying a yellow grocery bag filled with items walked out the store without paying for the items.
The suspect left the area on a bicycle. Officers on patrol located the suspect on East Street near Grand Caillou Road. He was brought back to the Dollar Tree where he was positively identified by the store manager. Officers identified the suspect as Elroy N. Williams Sr, 42, of Houma.
Officers located a suspected glass crack pipe in his pants pocket and discovered he had outstanding warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Williams was also linked to the thefts that had occurred earlier on Percy and Prospect Avenue.
He was arrested for felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (5th count), Theft of Goods, Theft, Theft over $500, and a prior warrant.
He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex where he was incarcerated awaiting trial or bond.
