Group of police officers resigned from SLCC's Lafayette campus last week
Although campus without gun carrying security; SLCC has amped up security on all campuses, keeping students and faculty safe
LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) — A group of certified police officers at SLCC resigned last week leaving the Lafayette campus without gun carrying security. The officers resigned over a personnel matter, but SLCC says students and staff should not be worried about their safety on campus.
"We don't have any gaps in security at all. We've increased the number in security officers that we have and the number of hours they are working," says Christine Payton, public relations director at SLCC.
Every campus will have security officers from the time the first person arrives on campus to the time the last person leaves. The college is putting out a request for proposals for a safety assessment, meaning a company will come in and tell SLCC enhancements all of the campuses can make to ensure safety.
