Grandmother carrying illegal gun busted shoplifting with granddaughter

A grandmother was arrested after police caught her with stolen items in her purse and a loaded 38 caliber revolver.

The Eunice Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Thursday, Jan. 3 at a Dollar Tree located off Hwy. 190 West. An employee witnessed the woman placing items in her purse and contacted local authorities.

Police detained Rebecca McCauley, 53, and her juvenile grandson at the scene. They searched her purse and found $8 worth of unpaid merchandise, as well as the weapon for which she did not have a legal permit. The female juvenile was also found carrying a purse from which $18.50 worth of stolen items were recovered.

Another underage juvenile was with McCauley, but did not participate in the theft.

McCauley was arrested and charged with Theft by Shoplifting, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, and two counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of Juveniles.

The juvenile was also arrested and charged with Theft by Shoplifting.
