Today, Governor Bobby Jindal signed legislation that will reduce the size and scope of state government by cutting down on the number of Boards and Commissions in Louisiana. The bill is part of the Governor’s 2013 Legislative Package.

HB 156—authored by Representative Clay Schexnayder—abolishes certain boards and commissions and provides for legislative review of boards and commissions that fail to report required financial information.

Governor Jindal said, “One of our top priorities since taking office has been reducing the footprint of state government and making it more efficient and cost effective for taxpayers. By eliminating certain boards and commissions and requiring increased oversight of others, we are continuing to do just that.”

Prior to the 2013 Legislative Session, Governor Jindal has worked with the Legislature to eliminate more than 115 state boards and commissions that were never fully formed or were no longer serving the purposes for which they were created.
