Police in Portland, TN, have apprehended a soldier wanted for questioning in connection to the fatal shooting Wednesday of an Army civilian employee at Fort Knox.

Officers identified the man during a routine traffic stop near the intersection of Searcy Lane and State Route 52 early Thursday.

According to the Army's Criminal Investigation Command, the man detained is a soldier assigned to Fort Knox's 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

He has been identified as Marquinta Jacobs, according to police.

Fort Knox PAO Kyle Hodges said Fort Knox police were alerted to the shooting in the parking lot outside of the Human Resource Command headquarters at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Hodges said the victim was an Army civilian employee of the United States Army Human Resources Command.

The victim was transported to the Ireland Army Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating a personal incident and not a random act of violence," said Chris Grey, spokesperson for the independent Army investigative agency.

The post was placed on a full 100 percent lockdown at 5:50 p.m., which was later changed to a heightened security alert.

No other information on the investigation has been released.
