System known as MoneyPak taking your money

Wednesday, August 21, 2013 - 3:32pm

Entergy is warning residents about a scam targeting customers in the state.  Con artists are giving customers a call and saying that your electric bill payment is past due, and that your service will be disconnected within the hour if you don't pay up. Then you are directed to transfer funds electronically, sometimes through the system known as "MoneyPak."

"They're taking their money, they're not paying their utility bill so the money that they are electronically wiring these people are walking away with.  So your not paying your bill and losing your money," says Liz Duhon, community relations for Entergy.

All reminder calls from Entergy are recorded, never an actual person, and Entergy never demands immediate payment.  If you have a questionable call, first call Entergy before going through with anything.
