NEW ORLEANS, LA — A 30-year-old man was arrested for DWI after he allegedly caused a crash that killed a 1-year-old child.
The Louisiana State Police reports that the crash happened at roughly 1:00 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21. Troopers were called to the scene of the crash on US 90B east at Stumpf Blvd.
Investigators learned that Jeremiah Price of New Orleans was driving east when he reached a closed section of the roadway. He drove through the area that was closed, knocking over barrels along the way. He eventually crashed into the back of a construction vehicle.
The child in the back seat was transported to a local hospital where he later died due to head injuries.
Price submitted to a blood alcohol concentration test, which showed he was over the legal limit. Officials did not provide the percentage.
Price was treated at a local hospital for his injuries, and was then arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide, DWI with Child Endangerment, Obedience to Required Traffic Control Devices, Negligent Injury, No Child Restraint and No Seat Belt. He was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
