Driver dies in morning crash
Lafayette, LA— On May 29, 2014, at approximately 4:30 am, Lafayette Police responded to the 800 block of Carmel Drive regarding a major crash. Traffic investigators indicate that a white 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup was traveling north on Noah Drive when the driver failed to stop for the stop sign at its intersection with Carmel Drive. The Chevrolet collided with a white 2003 GMC Yukon that was traveling east on Carmel Drive. The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The driver of the GMC received only minor injuries.
Several hours later the driver of the Chevrolet, 81 year old Joseph Rachal of Lafayette, died from his injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Traffic Section.
