Driver died attempting to pass a vehicle in no passing zone
TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (NBC33) — A Hammond man who attempted to pass another vehicle on a bridge in Tangipahoa Parish died after he crashed his vehicle in a head-on collision.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident happened at roughly 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18. Foster Cooper, 52, was driving in the east bound lane on Wardline Road. He tried to pass another vehicle in a no passing zone and lost control of his car. Cooper’s vehicle crossed the center line and hit Tamara Gray, 44, of Hammond.
Officials say Cooper died upon impact of the crash. His passenger was air lifted to a New Orleans hospital and a second passenger was taken to a hospital in Hammond. Gray was taken to the same hospital in Hammond where she reportedly has minor injuries.
