Deputy arrested for bringing illegal drugs in St. Mary Parish Jail

A deputy was arrested for allegedly bringing illegal drugs into the St. Mary Parish Jail.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that its agency intercepted a package at the jail on Friday, April 12. They say it contained marijuana and the prescription medication Desyrel.

Detectives learned that Derek Martin, a deputy with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, was involved in brining the contraband into the jail.

Martin, of Lafayette, was arrested on Wednesday, April 17 shortly after 9:00 p.m. He was charged with Malfeasance in Office, Principle to Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and Principle to Possession of a Legend Drug (Desyrel) with Intent to Distribute, and Entering Contraband into a Penal Institution.

he'll get a slap on the wrist- no time in jail---- suspended from his job for about 30 days and back to work!! let a regular citizen do this and they would be looking at 2 yrs in prison!!!
