Convicted felon with stolen handgun arrested for attempted murder
EUNICE, LA — A 20-year-old convicted felon from Mamou is locked up again for allegedly shooting a man in the leg over the weekend.
The Eunice Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Saturday, Dec. 8 at roughly 8:30 p.m. We’re told the suspect, Tyler Blanchard, was involved in an altercation with the victim. He then pulled out a gun and started firing at the victim as he attempted to run away. The victim was fell to the ground after he was hit twice in his left leg.
Officials say the victim was transported by a private vehicle to a local hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries. Once the victim was stable he was transported to a hospital in Lafayette for further treatment.
Blanchard managed to flee the scene before officers could arrive. However, he was located at a residence on Mill Street. Officers recovered a 22 caliber semi automatic pistol, magazines and ammunition from the home.
Blanchard was arrested and charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Illegal Use of a Weapon, Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Illegal Carrying of Weapons, Simple Battery, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He's presently being held in the Eunice City Jail without bond.
