Tense environment, wanting to solve long-term budget problems
LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) — Congressman Charles Boustany stopped by UL's campus today to talk to political science students about the current situation in Washington. Boustany was recently one of the republicans in Louisiana's congressional delegation to announce his support for the bipartisan compromise that ended the government shutdown and averted default.
"It's a very tense environment. My concern was that the country was going to default on it's debt. The government shutdown was costing a lot, it was bad," says Congressman Boustany.
But the congressman says they still have not solved long-term budget problems. He is headed back up to Washington tomorrow and hopes to get talks of a defecit reduction package in place.
