Lafayette, La. (KADN) — Parts of Chemin Metairie Parkway in Youngsville have sustained heavy damage from the weight of large trucks being used in construction around the busy road. Mayor Wilson Viator has declared the situation a public emergency. The city is now in the process of finding a contractor to resurface the road. The repairs are estimated to cost between $500,000 to $750,000. Fortunately, the city has enough money in it's general fund to make the repairs, meaning the cost of repairs will not come from any new taxes/ taxpayer dollars.
Most of the damage to the road is near the roundabout at Chemin Metairie Parkway and East Milton Avenue, as well as the southbound lane of Chemin Metairie Parkway. Mayor Viator attributes the damage to the fast growth the city has been experiencing with the development of many new subdivisions and the large new sports complex being built south of the roundabout.
