Cajun basketball star Elfrid Payton goes in the first round of the NBA Draft
Payton becomes third player in UL basketball history to be taken in the first round
Lafayette, La. (KADN) — Former UL Ragin Cajuns men's basketball standout Elfrid Payton made history last night in the NBA draft. Payton became only the third UL player to be chosen in the first round of the nba draft when he was picked as the 10th player overall by the Philadelphia 76ers and later traded to the Orlando Magic.
Payton left UL with one year of eligibility to enter the NBA draft. Last night after being picked he said it was "a dream come true", but his coaches, teammates and Cajun fans say it couldn't have happened to a better person than Payton. It's been a terrific sports year for the Ragin Cajuns.
Elfrid Payton picked as the tenth player in the NBA draft elevates the other great athletic achievements of the football, basketball, softball,tennis and of course baseball teams. Now, we will pull for former Cajun star Payton in the NBA with the Orlando Magic.
