LAKE CHARLES, LA — A Lake Charles man was arrested after he behaved in a bizarre way while committing several crimes. What’s more, he was reportedly “half naked.”
It all started on Monday, June 10 shortly after 6:00 a.m. We’re told the suspect, Jessie Bushnell, showed up at a home he was convinced was his own.
“The victim told officers that a black male suspect showed up at his residence and started knocking on his back door,” Deputy Chief Mark Kraus, Lake Charles Police Department, said. “The victim stated that Bushnell was telling him to let him in the residence claiming he lived there.”
The victim told Bushnell to leave, but that’s when things got even stranger.
“Bushnell then proceeded to take his clothes off and empty his pockets on the back porch,” Kraus said. “The witness came to assist the victim at which time Bushnell started walking back to his vehicle. Bushnell then ran into the garage, which is enclosed and has direct access to the residence, and attempted to make entry inside the residence.”
The victim fought the door closed and Bushnell eventually got into his car and left. Officers tracked his vehicle down to the St. Patrick’s Hospital, which became the location for another complaint.
“Upon arrival at the hospital, officers were informed by staff that a half naked black male was running around in the hospital,” Kraus explained. “While searching for Bushnell, an officer was contacted by a victim who claimed Bushnell ran up and removed her purse out of a chair.”
Bushnell was eventually located in a restricted area of the hospital. He had the victim’s purse in his possession.
Bushnell was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on one count of Home Invasion, Theft, and Criminal Trespassing. His bond was set at $113,000.
