Assumption Parish victims want money owed due to sinkhole evacuations
In Assumption Parish people living near a giant sinkhole in Bayou Corne say the Texas Brine Company isn't playing fair when it comes to money they're owed for evacuations.
Evacuees were asked to fill out extra paper work to sign up for retroactive payment from the Texas Brine Evacuation Assistance Fund.
The money is supposed to help cover expenses from the first two weeks of the evacuation, after the sinkhole first appeared more than a month a go.
People who live in the area say the amount offered per day won't cover their expenses.
What's more there is no money to cover people who couldn't afford to leave before the first checks were given out in mid August.
